The Creators Cut with Lisa Gorbunova looks like a pretty solid option for anyone who wants to get genuinely better at short form video editing, especially with CapCut. What I like is that it doesn’t jump straight into flashy effects and transitions. It starts with strategy, positioning, personal branding, finding ideas, scripting and even organizing your footage, which makes sense because a great edit can’t really save a boring concept. The filming section is another nice touch, covering lighting, camera settings, B-roll, audio and shooting with the edit already in mind. That whole approach feels practical rather than just teaching you where every button in CapCut is.
The editing section is where things get really packed. You get clean cuts, pacing, keyframes, masks, motion, transitions, colour correction, subtitles, sound design, voiceovers, SFX and creative overlays, plus more advanced desktop techniques like compound clips and curves. The real video breakdowns are probably one of the most useful parts because you can actually see how creative decisions are made from concept to final cut. There are also downloadable assets, templates, sticker packs and SFX, which can save a bunch of time when you’re practicing. It’s quite a lot of material though, so beginners might feel a little overwhelmed at first, especially if they try to learn every technique at once.
The main limitation is that the course is heavily centered around short form content and the CapCut ecosystem, so it won’t necessarily replace a more advanced Premiere Pro, Final Cut or DaVinci Resolve program. Some techniques may also need plenty of repetition before they become second nature, because knowing what a keyframe or mask does isn’t the same as having good editing instincts. Still, the overall structure is well thought out, and I like that Lisa puts so much emphasis on creative decision making rather than randomly throwing effects onto clips. If you’re serious about making Reels, TikToks or Shorts look cleaner, more dynamic and more recognizable, there’s a lot here to dig into.
